Sanjo Blacksmith Dojo

Mission

It is said that the crafting industry of Sanjo began with the manufacturing of traditional Japanese nails hundreds of years ago.

Currently, the region is recognized as a hub of metalware manufacturing, but the original traditions of blacksmithing are not lost, and to this day remains a large part of the city's identity.

Paper knife workshop

This facility has been built to provide an opportunity of experience the wonders of traditional blacksmithing techniques to all whom visit.

In 2002, hands-on blacksmithing classes known as the "Sanjo Blacksmith Dojo" were started, and on April 19, 2005, a facility of the same name opened its doors to the public.

Furture "Sanjo Blacksmith Dojo" classes will include blacksmithing, carpentry, family Buddhist alter making and many other fascinating experiences unique to Sanjo.
