Sanjo Festival
May 15, 2006

This years Sanjo festival opening day fell on a Sunday, and with the refurbishing of the Hachimangu shrine complete, the festival drew a bigger crowd than past years.

At 1PM the main event, the daimyo procession led way through the center of the city, while black clad footmen performed acts which were well received by the large crowd.

In the evening, the daimyo procession returned to the Hachimangu shrine, and the “Maikomi” was performed. Children whom partake in this event are said to grow in a perfect state of health, henceforth there were plenty of parents whom were carrying their child on their shoulders being involved with the whole festivities.

The Sanjo Byobu (folding screen) festival also takes place at the same time during the Sanjo festival. Beautifully painted folding screens can be seen at 10 various locations throughout the City of Sanjo.
