Scheduled Morning Markets

Many are attracted to the morning markets as it is a wonderful place to meet and greet vendors and friends.  You can also get the full market experience, compared to a normal grocery store. Come and listen to the ebullient vendors and the energy that fills the air at the open air markets.

Central Market (Chuo Ichiba)

Of the four scheduled markets that the city of Sanjo has established, this market hosts the most amount of vendors and merchants. Purchase locally grown produce to Sanjo local specialty such as Kurumafu (Wheel shaped breadlike pieces of dried wheat gluten) to Poppoyaki (Black sugar sponge cake sticks).
Parking is available for visitors.

  • Where: Motomachi, Sanjo
  • When: Days that end with 2 and 7. (2nd, 7th, 12th, 17th, 22nd, 27th) [however, Jan 2nd is always closed]
    05:00 - 16:00 (5am - 4pm)
    * Busy/crowded times 10:00 - 12:00 (10am-12noon)
  • Access: 1 min walk from JR Kita-Sanjo station
  • Main goods: fruits, vegetables, flowers, fresh fish, snacks, clothing, seeds, and seedlings.
  • Number of vendors: 70 - 150 vendors.

Yokkamachi Market

This scheduled market is located on the grounds of the old Sanjo health center. A bit different from other markets due to one section of the market has vendors lined up similar to a flea market.
Parking is also available at this market.

  • Where: Yokkamachi, Sanjo
  • When: Every month, on days that end with 5 and 10. (5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th)
    05:00 - 16:00 (5am - 4pm)
    * Busy/crowded times 10:00 - 12:00 (10am-12noon)
  • Access: 10mins walk from JT Sanjo station.
  • Main goods: fruits, vegetables, flowers, fresh fish, snacks, clothing, seeds, and seedlings.
  • Number of vendors: 50 - 60 vendors

Hachiman Kouji Market

Why not get up early and take a stroll to this market, where you can purchase locally grown fresh produce?

  • Where: Hachimancho, Sanjo
  • When: Every month, on days that end with 2 and 7.
    04:00 - 10:00 (4am - 10am)
  • Main goods: fruit and vegetables.
  • Number of vendors: 10 - 20 vendors

Shimada-Yuri Market

Why not get up early and take a stroll to this market, where you can purchase locally grown fresh produce?

  • Where: Shimada, Sanjo
  • When: Every month, on days that end with 2 and 7.
    04:00 - 10:00 (4am - 10am)
  • Main goods: fruit and vegetables.
  • Number of vendors: 10 - 20 vendors
