Ikarashi Shrine

Last Update:2008/4/1

The enshrined deity of Ikarashi shrine is the eighth prince of Emperor Suinin, Ikatarasihiko-no-mikoto. Ikatarasihiko-no-mikoto was appointed by Emperor Suinin to colonize the Koshi Province (old province of Japan, currently the Hokuriku region) of Japan, and henceforth began the cultivation of the Kubiki, Ueda (Minamiuonuma), and the Shitada region.
It is foretold that his last days were spent in the region of Iida-Miyazawa, and that he was buried at Mizuru-no-oka. During the Edo period, this deity was quite popular amongst the people as he was also known as Jakuichi-ouji, a deity who brings smooth and safe child birth.
