Guide to Living in Sanjo

Qualifications

1. You must live or work in Sanjo. (You do not need to be a resident of Sanjo if you are applying for prefectural housing.)
2. Your annual income must be enough to support yourself and pay for the rent but not surpass standards that are calculated according to size of family.
3. For most housing, you are required to have or be part of a family and/or have plans of getting married within 3 months. Smaller houses for bachelors are also available.
4. You must prove that you are having difficulty finding a home.

Application

1. Submit an application at the Architecture and Housing Division 2F Sanjo city office, Construction Division 1F Sakae Service Center , or Construction Division 1F Shitada Service Center.
2. You must bring a proof of income and your Alien Registration card.

How to Dispose Your Garbage

Please separate your garbage and dispose of it according to the "Gomi Calendar"(waste disposal schedule).The calendar schedule can be obtained at:

• Waste Management and Transportation Division 1F, Sanjo City Office
• Public Affairs Division 1F, Sakae Service Center
• Public Affairs Division 1F, Shitada Service Center
• Online from the Sanjo City Office webpage. (Japanese)

Please use the designated Garbage Bags and do not put your waste inside cardboard boxes or any other bags that are not designated by the city.

Garbage Disposal Fees

• Burnable Garbage is to be disposed of by using the designated Burnable Garbage Bags and placed at your local waste disposal station on appropriate scheduled days.
• Non-burnable Garbage is to be disposed of by using the designated Non-burnable Garbage Bags and placed at your local waste disposal station on appropriate scheduled days.

Official city designated garbage bags can be purchased in sets of 10 at various places such as supermarkets and convenience stores. Oversized garbage stickers are also sold at these locations.

Oversized Garbage (粗大ゴミ/Sodai-gomi)

Please purchase a garbage disposal sticker for garbage that does not fit inside the Non-burnable Garbage Bags and call the nearest garbage pick up company.

Recyclables (リサイクル品/Risaikuruhin)

• Recyclable items (cans, glass bottles, pvc bottles, cardboard, newspapers, and magazines) can be disposed of once a month according to the dates given in the "gomi calendar".
• Recyclable items will not be charged.

How to Properly Dispose of Glass Bottles

1. Please dispose of them before 8am on the the given time and date according to your local waste disposal calendar schedule.
2. Dispose of the contents and rinse the bottle if it is too dirty.
3. If the bottle is broken, please wrap in paper or newspaper and dispose it with the non-burnable garbage day.
