Famous Figures Route

Learn about some of the local famous figures.

1. Ikarashi Shrine

Ikarashi Shinre - It is said that at the Ikarashi shrine, celebreations for the shinto god Ikarashihikonomikoto which became the base for the local name Ikarashi. Also during the Kamakura period (1185-1333) a powerful clan leader, Ikarashi Kobunji lived in the local area which may be a base of the name Ikarashi as well.

2. Morohashi Tetsuji Museum

Morohashi Tetsuji Museum - Dr. Morohashi's museum is at times known as the giant star of sinology. If you are a pupil of "Kanji" (Chinese characters used in Japanese writing), there are plenty of interesting Kanji facts that might make you think "Oh wow!". Plenty of people whom enjoy kanji usually get quite involved in the "Kanji quiz" game the museum offers. Also, weird gifts such as "Kanji playing cards" are also on sale at the museum.

3. Ootani Dam Resource Centre

Ootani Dam Resource Center - The Ootani Dam took 14 years to complete, and the Ootani Dam Resource Center presents the function and the construction history of the dam. There are also records of what lies beneath the dam, and how life was before the dam.

 There are plenty of works of art, and products produced by distinguished locals displayed at the Sanjo Heritage Museum. Also Ryoukan, the Zen Buddhist monk visited Sanjo many times for religious mendicancy, so why not follow his footstep around Sanjo via the Path of Ryoukan.
