Emergency, Traffic Accident, Fire, and Crime

Traffic Accidents

In case of an accident:

  1. Call the police. <Dial 110>
  2. If there is an injury, call an ambulance. <Dial 119>
  3. Make sure to get an accident report (jikoshoumei) for insurance reasons.
*Make sure to call a friend to help interpret for you.
*There are two types of automobile insurance: compulsory insurance and an optional insurance. It is strongly recommended that you pay extra money and get optional insurance from a private company to be fully covered.

Phrases that can be used in case of a car accident (Example Expressions)
There was a car accident. Kuruma no jiko ga arimashita.
My name is (Bob Smith). Watashi wa (bobu sumisu) desu.
The accident was at (place). Jiko wa (asahi-cho) de okimashita

Fire, Injuries and Sudden Illness

In case of fire, burns, serious injury, or sudden sickness requiring immediate attention, stay calm and dial 119 (fire department) to call for an ambulance and tell the emergency staff the following:

  1. The location of fire and/or the injured person.
  2. Your name.
  3. Any kind of landmark around that area.

There's a fire! Kaji da!
The fire is at (Asahi-cho). Kajino basho wa (Asahi-cho) desu.
My name is (Bob Smith). Watashi wa (bobu sumisu) desu.
(Minami elementary school) is close by. Sobani (minami shougakkou) ga arimasu

*Please take every and all precautions when dealing with fire.
Phrases that can be used in case of accident or sudden illness
I got seriously hurt. Okega shimashita.
A person has fainted. Hito ga taoremashita.
My name is (Bob Smith). Watashi wa (bobu sumisu) desu.
The accident is at (Nikko-cho). Jikono basho wa (Nikko-cho) desu.

Theft or other Crime

If you are caught up in a crime such as theft, call <110 (police)>. Be sure to lock your doors at all times and lock your windows up when you go out. It is advised that you do not to keep your bankbook and inkan (registered seal) together. Always lock your car and do not leave any valuables inside. If a thief enters your house, quietly call the police as soon as possible.

Robber! dorobou!
There is a robber in my house. Ie ni dorobou ga imasu
Help! Tasukete!
