Traffic Accidents
In case of an accident:
*Make sure to call a friend to help interpret for you.
- Call the police. <Dial 110>
- If there is an injury, call an ambulance. <Dial 119>
- Make sure to get an accident report (jikoshoumei) for insurance reasons.
*There are two types of automobile insurance: compulsory insurance and an optional insurance. It is strongly recommended that you pay extra money and get optional insurance from a private company to be fully covered.

Fire, Injuries and Sudden Illness
In case of fire, burns, serious injury, or sudden sickness requiring immediate attention, stay calm and dial 119 (fire department) to call for an ambulance and tell the emergency staff the following:
- The location of fire and/or the injured person.
- Your name.
- Any kind of landmark around that area.

*Please take every and all precautions when dealing with fire.

Theft or other Crime
If you are caught up in a crime such as theft, call <110 (police)>. Be sure to lock your doors at all times and lock your windows up when you go out. It is advised that you do not to keep your bankbook and inkan (registered seal) together. Always lock your car and do not leave any valuables inside. If a thief enters your house, quietly call the police as soon as possible.
