Last Update:2008/4/1

From afar, a mountain with 3 peaks can be seen in the background of Sanjo. Mt. Awa-gatake is a popular mountain to climb for many whom live in the area. From the Kita-Imo River the summit can be climbed in approximately 4 hours. As a spa hot spring is located nearby, many find themselves relaxing their muscles and freshening up after challenging Mt. Awa-gatake.

The official climbing season for Mt. Awa-gatake begins every May 5th. But please be warned that snow can remain on the mountain until the end of June.

Mt. Awa-gatake is located in the northern part of the Okuhayade-Awa-Sumon Prefectural Natural Park. Two trails lead to the summit of Mt. Awa-gatake, one from Imo River in Shitada and the other from Kamo.
